Founded in 1972 as the Atlanta Flames, the team relocated in 1980 to Calgary and changed their name to the Calgary Flames. They're a regular top scoring team in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the NHL, and have won a single Stanley Cup in 1989. Since both the Flames and the Edmonton Oilers are both located in the same province it has spurned an intense rivalry between fans known as the Battle of Alberta, and games between these two teams are often hard-hitting, heated events.
