The Detroit Red Wings are one of the oldest teams in the NHL, one of the Original Six teams. As of 2011, they had won eleven Stanley Cup championships, the most for a franchise in the United States, and third after the Canadiens and the Maple Leafs. Their advancement to the playoffs 22 years in a row from 1991-2013 has been the longest current streak of playoff appearances in all of professional sports in North America.
